Here's another terrific project from one of our illustrious recent Community Studies alumni, Cheyanne Epps (Fall 2013). Cheyanne double majored in Art along with Community Studies and completed her field study with Groundswell Community Mural Project in Brooklyn, New York (http://www.groundswellmural.org/). Yes, That's Cheyanne on the photo roll on the main page of the Community Studies website, standing in front of a Groundswell mural. She was hired by Groundswell and is now working there full time. Her senior project was a mural project at the campus child care center that involved children imagining their community and what was important to them in their community and then representing those ideas in paint. Look for some photos of that project on a post coming soon.
In the meantime, check out Cheyanne's collaboration on a project entitled "Objects" that is a really sharp, accessible mapping site/tool that plots incidents involving objects mistaken as weapons by police and the use of deadly police force against the people with those objects.
Cheyanne's collaboration will be featured in a two day symposium on "Visual Activism" organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art http://www.sfmoma.org/exhib_events/events/2360.
